Liaison to Florida International University and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority: Breny DaParre Garcia

Dr. Brenezza “Breny” DaParre Garcia was a dear friend of Janelle’s and fellow sorority sister. Their bond transcended into a close relationship with the Bertot family, which led her to serve on the Board of Directors for Janelle’s Wishing Well Foundation since its inception as the liaison to Florida International University and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. Her initiatives have included: the Janelle Bertot and Tony Perez Commemorative Court at FIU, the annual vigil held by the Delta Kappa chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma, raising awareness by serving as the keynote speaker at Delta Kappa’s annual Philanthropy Night, and helping to raise funds for the Janelle Bertot Memorial Scholarship at FIU.

Breny holds a B.A. in Political Science, an M.S. in Higher Education with a specialty in leadership management, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education with a focus on crisis management – all from Florida International University. She has worked at FIU’s Office of the President since 2004, currently working as the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Relations. Needless to say, she is a true FIU Golden Panther!

During her spare time, Breny enjoys spending time with her younger siblings, volunteering for Phi Sigma Sigma (both at a local and international level), traveling with her husband Charlie Garcia.
